Charles Lalonde has been involved with the introduction of the 4R program in Ontario dating back to 2011, when the 4R concept was examined to support farm recording of BMPs and fertilizer use in support of greenhouse gas reduction protocols. Later the social aspects in terms of environmental responsibility were assessed. Recently Charles coordinated the introduction of the 4R demonstration program on 15 farms across Ontario to determine how the record keeping could be used to support marketing initiatives as well as encouragement to producers to implement BMPS to manage phosphorus in the Great Lakes Basin. This past July Charles coordinated a very successful farm tour in the Lake Erie and Lake St Clair Basin to demonstrate best practices with respect to P management based on the 4Rs.
