Earl grew up on a dairy, beef, swine and cash crop farm in the Peterborough area and farmed full time with his father and brother for six years. He went to the University of Guelph where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Agriculture and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science. He worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for 32 years as a teacher and manager with a focus on production agriculture and economic development.
In 1989, Earl started an income tax preparation business that has grown steadily since he retired from the provincial government in 2011. He currently provides succession and other life and health insurance planning services to his clients.
Earl joined Farm Life Financial Planning Group in 2016 to broaden his service area and make better use of his knowledge and skills within the agricultural community.
He lives in Lyn, Ontario with his wife Barbara. They have one son, Adam, who works as a land surveyor in the Ottawa area.
